About
Lily Guzmán
She was born and has lived most her time in Puerto Rico, with the exception of her time in Miami, Florida, where she trained to become a Rheumatologist. She is a board-certified Internal Medicine and Rheumatology physician based in Puerto Rico.
When she is not working, she is spending time with her family and beloved dog, Nico. Inspired by the comfort that provides Nico and the resilience of her patients, particularly those living with chronic pain, she began writing Gentle Hugs. Her book was created as a reminder that it’s never too early to learn the power of empathy and compassion, qualities that needs daily care and attention to prosper.

“It's an impressively compassionate story about how persistent illness can affect a family. An empathetic book about how chronic conditions may limit a parent's activity, but never their love."
"The book is filled with lovely illustrations that vividly depict Alex's journey and his mother's battle with an illness. The heart-warming storyline moved me. I teared up at Alex's observations and how he never once doubted his mother's love. I recommend sharing this story with your child, especially if someone close to them is battling a health issue. It's a beautifully crafted storybook that'll leave a lasting impression on every reader, young or old."
"Guzmán’s Gentle Hugs may be targeted to families with parents with disabilities, but with its masterful illustrations and valuable lesson, it’s a tender, worthwhile addition to any family’s library."
"This is a gentle story filled with love that would most obviously be perfect for children of parents with chronic illnesses. However, I also think that this book has widespread appeal in showing young readers all the different ways that you can show love."
